Ideally located, just off Central Park West and mere steps away from the Lincoln Centre, a short ride from Times Square and many more sights and museums, the YMCA West Side is just perfect for guests travelling on a budget. No doubt it was voted Best Elder hostel by the New York Tourist Board in 1997. The Leisure facilities are great and all the rooms are very comfortable.The hotel features a fitness center with a steam room, sauna, weight lifting, cardiovascular equipment and 2 indoor swimming pools. 100 Free group exercise classes, including yoga and Pilates, are offered to guests weekly. (Guests booking a twin or double room should note that these will consist of bunk-bed style bedding). Please kindly note that hostel is a accommodation with shared facilities Maximum stay is 25 nights

4.0 star rating	The YMCA West Side has been in the same location since the 20s or 30s, I believe, but has been updated at intervals. To get a single room at this price (approx Â£48 sterling per night) in the heart of Manhattan is almost unheard of, so very good value. Excellent job by cleaning staff - sheets and spotless white towels changed daily. Shared restrooms with shower, basin and toilet good - at least 12 per floor. Reasonably priced cafe on ground floor open till after 11pm. There is a 3rd floor fitness suite with lap (lane) pool swimming, sauna and steam room which residents can use free - towels provided. You could leave luggage for $1 up to 9pm. But luggage room unsupervised.	My room on the 12th floor was a bit old and basic. Had to fight to close the door which kept sticking. My friend for a similar price had a slightly smaller but nicer room on the 13th floor with modern wood bed frame, dressing table, wardrobe cum drawer unit, full-length mirror and bedside light. We did not know whether the difference was because we booked through different agencies or whether the receptionist allocates rooms on a whim. The electronic card keys were a nightmare. We and other guests regularly had to battle to open bedroom and restroom doors. The cafe's Hispanic staff had a quaint of serving and charges varied. If you wanted fried eggs you often had to get in a slow queue.		30 September 2008
1.0 star rating		Some of the employees at the front door were so mean and not so helpful. We had a lot of bags when we were going to go home and we asked one of the employes if they could help us and the answer was "no i dont want to go out and catch a cold", he could just had hold up the door. But like most people in new york he was not nice. And also the cleaners, we had two signs on the door that said "do not disturb" but still they knockdd on our door twice and opened it up when we still were in the room and we scremed "no thanku". The bathrooms on the floor that we stayed in were horrible. There were holes in the cieling and the showers were terrible and disgusting, we could not shower there. We had to go down to the lockerrooms to be able to shower and go to the bathroom. Because the bathrooms were soo disgusting, words cant describe them. And the wifi that was supposed to work never did. Even though the info disk sayd that there were nothing wrong with it, but it didnt work to a lot of people. And our room cards stopped working all the time, we had to go to the info disk to change them at least 3 or 4 times. The bunk beds were hard, we got back pains from them. They were like normal teo beds that they had just screwed up on the other one so they didnt feel so stable. But you get what you pay for. But ive paid less for hostles before and they have been much better than this. We also didnt get any information when we arried we just got our keys and room number. They did not tell us about the bathroom code or the gym or store or lockeroom, wifi etc. So our experience was not nice and we couldnt wait to get out of there.	LaraM	04 January 2014
