Pai Information

Pai has undergone a breathtaking transformation in recent years, while still staying true to itself. It's still a tranquil backwater in a remote valley setting, but word has spread and Pai's attractions have only grown, having become more varied and approachable.

Actually, the town has to be experienced to be believed: An amazing setting at the banks of a river, a friendly and varied indigenous population, a myriad of foreign visitors and expats, all in an atmosphere of calm and tranquility.

Pai is the ideal getaway to let your mind wander, an ideal surrounding for creative pursuits in solitude or in small groups, where there is just enough human interaction to not feel lonely.

Then again, Pai is also a party town, even though this reputation has diminished somewhat in recent years. There are still great venues for live music such as the Bebop Bar and many other joints.

Last but not least, as Pai attracts creative types from all over the planet looking for a vibrant community and the high-life at low-cost, Pai has an art scene that is one of the most diverse in SE Asia. Many galleries and handicraft shops are more elegant and unique in terms of design and presentation than what you would find in more "developed" places like Chiang Mai or Bangkok. All this is experienced in the balmy evenings, when the streets are full of wandering souls enjoying the magic of Pai on their way to the river.
