Chiang Mai has long been regarded as Thailand's most livable city and is quickly gaining international recognition as a prime holiday destination. The city is situated in the fertile valley of the River Ping, against the stunning backdrop of Doi Suthep Mountain. Over 300 temples herald Chiang Mai's deep-rooted Buddhist tradition, while today it offers an excellent infrastructure with an international airport, a good road network throughout the entire province, excellent shopping outlets as well as all amenities of the information age. Many people from around the work relocate to Chiang Mai every year -be it for a holiday or a lifetime-, falling under the spell of the city's unique charm. The people of Chiang Mai are every day living up to their reputation of calm friendlieness and love of beauty. Because it is much easier to get around than in Bangkok, the city and its vicinity can be explored via rented card or motorcycle. An abundance of great restaurants offering almost any cuisine of the world await the gourmet and the hotels are some of the finest in the country, with prices far below those in the beach resorts of Thailand.

Please note: Star ratings for hotels in Thailand have to be taken with a grain of salt, as there is no established rating system in the Kingdom. Such a system is currently being developed under the auspices of the Thai Hotels Association and other industry bodies, and only some hotels are officially rates as yet. Today, many hotels effectively rate themselves. We try to augment this information by gathering data form agents like Studiosus® in Germany and other agencies known for rigorous evaluation of the hotels' quality and service standards.
Besides that, the old adage "You get what you pay for." holds true. At a given location hotels who can charge higher rates are usually better by international standards. Then again, the high level of service mindedness, hospitality and customer care in Thailand will leave most visitors satisfied in spite of the hotel's rating, official or not, even if they don't get every tick on the reviewer's checklist.
