Bangkok is certainly the most exciting metropolis in Asia. The blend of old Thai culture with its languid pace of life and the rush of a 21st century business city is an experience you won’t forget. And Bangkok is a city that, despite its infamous traffic problem, still works: The city is surprisingly clean and well organized, garbage is collected, electricity, Internet and all other services work well and public transport is getting better every day. And the city is very safe compared with almost any large western city. Foreigners have hardly been the victim of any crime and even the so-called “slum” dwelling that make headlines in western media are perfectly safe to walk into. The exemplary social competence of the Thais make the city peaceful and there is hardly an outbreak of anger in spite of the hottest heat and densest traffic. Bangkok brings out the best in the Thais, their enormous strength and calm in the face of adversity, their entrepreneurship which shows in the bustling markets and the versatile service industry and their sense of beauty and tradition displayed in the temples, museums and parks. The city offers many must see sites, especially Wat Phra Kaew which houses the most famous Buddha image in Thailand, the Emerald Buddha, Wat Po with its reclining Buddha and the National Museum with its excellent overview of Thai history. Besides that, Bangkok offers Thailand greatest variety of restaurants, bars, discotheques as well as a bustling nightlife.

Please note: Star ratings for hotels in Thailand have to be taken with a grain of salt, as there is no established rating system in the Kingdom. Such a system is currently being developed under the auspices of the Thai Hotels Association and other industry bodies, and only some hotels are officially rates as yet. Today, many hotels effectively rate themselves. We try to augment this information by gathering data form agents like Studiosus® in Germany and other agencies known for rigorous evaluation of the hotels' quality and service standards.
Besides that, the old adage "You get what you pay for." holds true. At a given location hotels who can charge higher rates are usually better by international standards. Then again, the high level of service mindedness, hospitality and customer care in Thailand will leave most visitors satisfied in spite of the hotel's rating, official or not, even if they don't get every tick on the reviewer's checklist.
